The Alaska Performance Excellence Program
APEX will assist interested Alaska organizations in improving their performance and will recognize outstanding systemic processes in small and large organizations throughout Alaska. APEX design and operations are based upon the Baldrige National Quality Program and designed to provide specific criteria and feedback to organizations throughout Alaska in the areas of Leadership, Strategic Planning, Customer and Market Focus, Information and Analysis, Human Resources, Process Management and Results. The BNQP, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce since 1988, provides the highest level of national recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can achieve.

The Baldrige criteria provide an integrated management framework, embracing the leading edge of validated management practices. There are six sectors in which organizations can compete: Business (three sectors: Manufacturing, Small Business and Service), Education, Health Care and Not-for-Profit (new in 2006). Baldrige promotes a systematic approach for fact-based improvement initiatives, social responsibility, ethical behavior, benchmarking of processes, measurable results and improved effectiveness. This approach provides accelerated change through competition and examiner feedback.

Forty states have each created a state-level award program based upon Baldrige criteria in order to raise the level of performance in their organizations and to serve as a building platform to assist interested organizations in achieving national recognition. Visit www.akapex.com.
